Hi could you let me know the best way to prevent condensation for outdoor enclosures?
This is a good question, especially at this time of year when the temperature differential between the inside and outside of an enclosures means that condensation is a real risk.
Condensation is caused when air is drawn into the enclosure caused pressure changes as the temperature in the enclosure fluctuates. The first thing to remember is that a high IP rating won’t protect against condensation (it actually makes it worse!) so don’t spend more on an IP68 solution that you don’t need.
The solution to condensation is to find a way to regulate the air pressure within the enclosure so that it remains constant with the environment in which it’s housed. Fortunately, there are now quite a lot of ventilation systems available that allow air to escape from the enclosure without affecting the ingress protection against water and dirt.
Spelsberg not only offers a range of distribution boxes that have ventilation systems built in but also ventilation/pressure compensation accessory devices that can be fitted to any enclosure. You can read more in our catalogue.
You can watch a video about the range here.
It’s also possible to customise standard enclosures with aftermarket solutions. If you speak to one of our sales engineers prior to your order we can to design a solution and our customisation service will deliver the units pre-installed.
